Day 6 - Clun to Helsby

Up early this morning, its going to be a long day in the saddle heading to Helsby. Early showers delayed our departure but once we got going we could see blue sky patches in the distance we don't mind getting soaked if you dry out from time to time.

Couple of grade 5 hills leaving Clun then headed through the beautiful rolling Shropshire hills, then into Bishops Castle, average speed 13mph, todays total milage 79.56 miles.

Great decent down into the Severn valley, true dairy country with plenty of black and white Holsteins, and more fields of yellow oil seed rape. Turned into Shrewsbury ( birthplace of Charles Darwin) and headed into the city centre over an ornate steel suspension bridge over the river Severn. Crossing the park we found the sheltered sun trap of a manicured garden complete with purple aubrietia and seasonal spring bedding schemes.

After collecting some sponsorship, we headed north out of Shrewsbury to the market towns of Wem and Whitchurch and joined heavy commuter traffic across the Cheshire plains. Some difficult navigation through to Helsby as there was no road signs on the C classed lanes.
Arrived safely at Dave and Steve's house just before 6.00pm to enjoy the evening sun in the terraced garden and a first class chicken risotto and pavlova in their stunning home.
